Driving Miss Daisy is entertaining and good for what it is, but it doesn't stand out as powerful picture and a film classic by any means. The cast do a fine job in their roles, but I felt that the Driving Miss Daisy is a play by American playwright Alfred Uhry, about the relationship of an elderly Southern Jewish woman, Daisy Werthan, and her African-American chauffeur, Hoke Coleburn, from 1948 to 1973. The play was the first in Uhry's Atlanta Trilogy, which deals with Jewish residents of that city in the early 20th century. Driving Miss Daisy is Alfred Uhry's 1988 Pulitzer winning play that put him on the map as a premier southern playwright. A play containing only three roles, Daisy is an exploration of what it means to be Jewish, black, and elderly in the ever changing south.
